Terms of Service

The rules and legal terms governing your use of the Shibre application, our non-custodial software disclaimer, and subscription conditions.

Section 1

Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the Shibre mobile application or website, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not install or use the application.

Shibre is independently developed and operated by Kaleb Tesfaye in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We reserve the right to update these terms to reflect feature changes or regulatory requirements. Continued use of the application after updates constitutes your agreement.

Section 2

Description of Service

Shibre is an autonomous personal bookkeeping and expense aggregator application designed to help individuals track their personal cash flow, account balances, and daily spending habits across Ethiopian banks and mobile wallet providers (such as Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, Telebirr, Awash Bank, Dashen Bank, Bank of Abyssinia, and others).

The service operates by reading and interpreting standard SMS transaction receipts received on your device. Free users utilize 100% on-device local SQLite processing. Pro users can optionally enable zero-knowledge encrypted cloud backups across their devices.

Section 3 • Critical Disclaimer

Non-Custodial Banking & Affiliation Disclaimer

Please read this section carefully before using Shibre:

  • No Custody or Movement of Funds: Shibre is not a bank, electronic money issuer, payment service provider (PSP), microfinance institution, or depository. The application never holds, accepts deposits of, moves, initiates wire transfers of, or debits your money.
  • Independent Software: Shibre is developed independently and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or partner of Ethio Telecom (Telebirr), the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), Awash Bank, Dashen Bank, Bank of Abyssinia, the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE), or any other bank or financial institution.
  • No Financial Advice: Calculations, spending statistics, and cash flow visualizations generated by Shibre are for informational bookkeeping purposes only and do not constitute financial, investment, tax, or legal advice.
  • Official Records: For tax filings, legal inquiries, or dispute reconciliation, you must always refer to your official monthly bank and wallet account statements provided directly by your financial institution.
Section 4

Device Permissions & SMS Processing

To enable automatic transaction extraction, Shibre requests Android device permissions (RECEIVE_SMS and READ_SMS). By granting these permissions, you authorize the application to inspect incoming SMS messages strictly from recognized banking senders.

Security Safeguards: Shibre enforces strict internal filters. One-Time Passwords (OTPs), 2-factor authentication codes, security tokens, bank login credentials, and all personal text messages from your contacts are immediately dropped and permanently discarded.

Section 5

Pro Subscriptions, Billing & Cancellations

Shibre offers a 100% Free Edition with no credit card required, as well as an optional premium tier ("Shibre Pro") for multi-device encrypted cloud sync, shared family wallets, and export tools:

Monthly Billing

149 ETB / month

Billed every 30 days. You can cancel anytime directly inside app settings without fee or penalty.

Annual Billing (Save 33%)

1,188 ETB / year

Billed annually (equivalent to 99 ETB / mo). Grants 12 full months of uninterrupted cross-device sync.

If you cancel a Pro subscription, you retain Pro features until the end of your current billing period, after which your account gracefully reverts to the Free Tier without deleting your local records.

Section 6

Intellectual Property & Ownership

The Shibre application, website, logos, user interface designs, custom parsing algorithms, and trademarks are the exclusive property of developer Kaleb Tesfaye.

All bank names, logos, and trademarks displayed within the application (including CBE, Telebirr, Awash, Dashen, BOA, etc.) belong strictly to their respective corporate owners and are used purely for nominative identification to help users categorize their transaction receipts.

Section 7

Disclaimer of Warranties

Shibre is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.

While we continuously maintain our parsing engine to adapt to changes in banking SMS formats, we do not warrant that the application will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every single transaction alert will be parsed with 100% accuracy in the event that a financial institution alters their notification format without notice.

Section 8

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall developer Kaleb Tesfaye or Shibre be liable for any indirect, punitive, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising out of or in connection with your use or inability to use the service.

Under no circumstances will Shibre be responsible for any discrepancies between the numbers displayed in the application and your official bank balances. You are solely responsible for verifying your financial affairs with your banking providers.

Section 9

Data Deletion & Termination

You may terminate your agreement with Shibre at any time simply by ceasing use of the application and uninstalling it from your device.

You can purge your entire transaction database locally inside Settings > Delete Data. For Pro cloud users, you can delete all synced backups instantly in the app or by submitting a data deletion request to support@shibre.com.
